LOS ANGELES –West L.A. Music recently presented a drum clinic featuring Gregg Bissonette, the world renowned drummer who has toured and recorded with many of the biggest acts in recording history including Ringo Starr, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Santana, James Taylor, Andrea Boccelli and Toto. The event was sponsored by Zildjian, Shure, Remo, Vic Firth, DW Drums and LP.
With over 300 people in attendance, Bissonette was welcomed to the stage with a standing ovation. Bissonette then launched into an impressive demonstration of drumming skills, playing examples of his legendary melodic style, and wowing the audience with his speed and rhythmic genius. A mesmerized and attentive crowd watched him perform a Northern Indian tribal-influenced piece, using two Gregg Bissonette Vic Firth signature drum sticks in each hand.
The event featured a master class of traditional rock and world rhythms, as Bissonette played numerous signature drum parts, asking the audience to name each song, to demonstrate how the drum part can “define” the song.
Bissonette discussed the layout of his kit, and his playing techniques, as well as his education and training, and his approach to learning and writing music. He explained how to work successfully with producers as a session drummer, and how to handle the pressures of touring. Bissonette told stories about the musicians who influenced his career and offered insights about performing with top artists at major venues around the world.
During a one-hour meet and greet, Gregg Bissonette, signed hundreds of autographs and took pictures with his fans. West L.A. Music awarded one clinic attendee a DW Piccolo Snare, and another lucky winner an 18” Zildjian medium crash cymbal.
