Third Annual Healing Through Music Benefit
On Saturday, September 17, 2011, Children’s Music Fund held a SOLD OUT benefit for 160 people at the private home of musical talents Edie & Michael Lehmann Boddicker. A successful Opportunity Drawing & Live Auction had people lining up to show their support, especially after partner West LA Music offered to supply CMF with guitars and keyboards for instrument donations for every donor who made a pledge of $500 or more.
The evening's program was kicked off by emcees Patrick Ney, Jenna Macari and Rick Waite. They first introduced longtime CMF supporter Firouzeh Banki, who's eloquent story and passion for CMF moved many to tears. Firouzeh was followed by the delightful Anna R., a former recipient of an instrument donation and music therapy from CMF. Anna spoke openly about her experience with Cancer, Cancer tratment and how music kept her going...and still keeps her going...during some very dark times. Musician Paul Adelstein performed some phenomenal tunes from his new album.
The event raised nearly $30,000 in support of CMF programs and services. While CMF has already dramatically increased its reach in the community for 2011, thanks to our amazing supporters, we will be able to serve DOUBLE the number of chidlren with chronic conditions and life-altering illnesses in 2012!
Dear Friends,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. WOW! This year has been a whirlwind of activity at Children's Music Fund. Michael Babikian, Chief Marketing Officer for Transamerica, has been elected to the position of Chairman of the CMF Board of Directors. In addition to a JD, LLM and MBA, Michael brings a wealth of experience working with corporate and nonprofit Boards. Our base of support is growing by leaps and bounds. Thanks to the continued support of CMF's wonderful friends, we have been able to reach almost four times more children with individual music therapy this year! And as a result of our new Hospital Outreach Initiative, CMF has brought the healing power of music to more than 250 children with life-altering illnesses. Instrument donations have also grown in 2011. With the help of CMF partner West LA Music, thousands of dollars in musical instruments will be donated by CMF to individuals and pediatric hospitals this holiday season. With continued growth projected...and your continued support, we look forward to a successful 2012!
Warmest regards,
Raffi Tachdjian, MD, MPH
