For the past few years, we've produced the West L.A. Music DJ Spinoff. The Spinoff was designed to bring L.A.'s Top DJ's and the industry's top record labels and manufacturers together under one roof. Our previous events have provided great opportunities for the winners. West L.A. Music champions have gone on to tour with DJ Quik and serve as show DJs for MTV. From N'SYNC to Cher, it's impossible to miss the influence of Electronic Music on today's hottest artists. That's why we've dedicated this year's event to the Remix artist and decided to take our competiton to the next level! We would like to invite you to become a part of this Ground Breaking Event!

The Remixers and Their Tools Workshop will take place on Saturday June 16, 2001 at our West Los Angeles location. This intense workshop will feature live performance and studio techniques, using today's hottest new production and remix gear.

This year's "Groove Like The Pros" Remix Competition will not be a live event, focusing on production rather than performance. West LA Music will accept entries of original music from June 16 - August 11. Entries will consist of a CD, Cassette or DAT Tape demonstration of a 4 minute routine. We will select finalists and submit their entries to our panelist of Celebrity Judges. (Past judges include DJ Quik, DJ Shorkut of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, King Tech and DJ Revolution of the Wake Up Show, and Label reps from Virgin, Sony, Priority records.)

 
First Place Prize Package:

  • One MS2000 Rack - $850 retail
  • One D1600 - $2000 retail

Second Place Prize Package:
  • One ER1 Electribe - $399 retail
  • One EA1 Electribe - $399 retail
  • One Kaoss Pad - $325 retail

Third Place Prize Package:
  • One Kaoss Mixer - $750 retail

 
The Rules:
  • The "Groove Like The Pros" Remix competition is only open to U.S. Residents over 18 who use at least one of the following Korg products to create their entry demo: EA1 Electribe, ER1 Electribe, ES1 Electribe, Kaoss Pad, MS2000, MS2000R, or any model Korg Keyboard. Music will be judged on creative content and audio quality.
  • Entries must consist of an original Remix. No signed artists or artists with exclusive contracts are eligible to enter.
  • Entries may not exceed 4 minutes in length
  • Entries must include the Entry Form, filled out completely.
  • Only one entry per contestant will be accepted.
  • Entries must be submitted as a stereo mix on CD, Cassette or DAT Tape.
  • Contest entries will be accepted between June 16 and August 11, 2001. All entries must be delivered or postmarked by August 11, 2001. Absolutely no exceptions!
  • Entries will not be returned.
  • Selected Winners will be notified by September 1, 2001 by U.S. Mail.
  • Employees of West L.A. Music, KORG USA, or URB Magazine are not eligible to submit entries.
  • Participants certify that their submission consists only of original material or material that is cleared for use, such as third party sampler CDs. No material can be copied from a third party source without written permission.
  • This contest is void where prohibited by law.
